Public Notice: Updates to Meeting Notices & Public Records (HF2490) The State of Iowa recently passed House File 2490, which updates the rules for how cities must share public meeting information and handle public records requests. These changes take effect July 1, 2026. Here’s what residents need to know: •Meeting notices will be easier to find. The Town of Ledyard will post all City Council and board/commission meeting notices in a clearly visible public location and on the City’s main website. If an agenda changes, it will be marked as AMENDED so residents can easily see what was updated. •Public records requests will be more transparent. When someone requests public records, the City will make every reasonable effort to provide them at no cost if the request takes less than 30 minutes to complete. If a request requires additional time or expenses, the City will clearly communicate any fees before work begins. •Clearer policies and staff guidance. The City is updating its procedures and providing staff training to ensure all requirements of HF2490 are met. Ledyard is committed to open government, clear communication, and easy access to public information. These updates help ensure residents stay informed and have straightforward access to the records and meetings that matter to our community.
